Press Release From Osbourn Park Head Coach Michael D. Feldman:
Osbourn Park Track and Field is pleased to announce that Paul DeVito, Class of ’09, has committed to Georgia Tech where he plans to major in engineering. He will compete for the Yellow Jackets in the high and intermediate hurdles, and sprint relay events. DeVito was All State in the 55-meter highs (7.73 seconds) and the 300 intermediates (38.85) as a junior. His time of 14.02 in the 110 highs was the second fastest time in Virginia in 2008. He finished 9th in the 110m highs at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. DeVito has yet to compete this year due to an ankle injury sustained this past summer. He is preparing for the upcoming outdoor season and is targeting a return to competition in mid-April.
DeVito was also recruited heavily by Virginia Commonwealth University, Syracuse, Indiana University and East Carolina. However, after his visit to the Tech campus in early February, the Yellow Jackets jumped to the top of the list. Georgia Tech’s innovative engineering programs, coupled with the rich tradition of the Tech track program, and the leadership of head coach Grover Hillsdale and his staff, sold DeVito and his family.
“The fact that Georgia Tech is a national leader in engineering and also has produced a number of great hurdlers was the difference maker. And a chance to compete in the ACC. It’s an opportunity I had to take. I am looking forward to getting back on the track and finishing my senior season strong. It has been tough not to be out there with my teammates and competing. I like running and competing, not coaching.” said DeVito.
DeVito will join the following former Osbourn Park track and field athletes currently competing at the collegiate level:
